In 1953, Wayne Fetterhoff opened his first store, which was located in half of his house in Valley View. It was appropriately named The Valley Market. In 1972, Wayne and his wife, Shirley, purchased a plot of land midway between Hegins and Valley View in a quiet rural area of Central Pennsylvania. Here he built the first Midway Supermarket which opened on April 12, 1973.
Encouraged by his wife and children, his business underwent its first enlargement in 1985. Gas pumps were also added at this time. Wayne and Shirley have since passed on. However, their son, James W. Fetterhoff and wife and family, continue to keep the dream alive.
In 1996, the supermarket underwent its second enlargement, which significantly increased the store's offerings. A restaurant, fresh seafood department, full-service pharmacy, and Wachovia Bank branch were added.
